What it does

This product is a phosphoric-acid-based rust/oxide remover formulated for industrial metal preparation. It attacks iron oxide and helps leave a cleaner, more uniform surface before downstream steps like primer, coating, conversion treatment, or assembly.

Derusting action

Targets common iron oxides and surface staining while minimizing uncontrolled base-metal attack when used as directed.

Surface prep

Supports paint/coating adhesion by reducing oxide layers and improving wet-out for primers.

Process-friendly

Options can be aligned for dwell time, foam level, and rinse behavior depending on your equipment and water quality.

Positioning
Use as a deruster / prep step — not a general-purpose degreaser. For heavy oils, pair with an alkaline degreaser first.

Applications

Typical usage patterns across industrial sites, workshops, and fabrication lines. Final selection depends on substrate, rust severity, application method, and post-treatment requirements.

  • Steel surface preparation prior to primer/paint (maintenance repainting, refurbishment)
  • Derusting of parts, fasteners, jigs, racks, and fixtures (dip/soak or brush-on)
  • Removal of light-to-moderate oxide scale after storage/transport
  • Pre-treatment support step before phosphating or other conversion processes (process-specific)

Industries

Metal fabrication • Maintenance & repair • Fleet workshops • Industrial plants • Warehousing & logistics

Substrates

Primarily ferrous metals (carbon steel, mild steel). Ask for guidance for mixed-metal assemblies.

Finishing targets

Paint-ready prep • Cleaner bare metal • Controlled etch for better coating adhesion (process dependent)

Process guidance

Typical operating guidance for industrial use. Actual parameters depend on rust load, temperature, and method. Always follow your site safety rules and the supplied SDS/TDS.

Ask for a recommended procedure

1) Pre-clean (recommended)

Remove oils/grease first using an alkaline degreaser where applicable. Rust removers work best on metal surfaces that are not oil-wet.

2) Apply & dwell

Apply by brush/wipe, immersion, or low-pressure spray. Keep the surface uniformly wet during dwell. Agitation improves speed on heavy oxide.

3) Rinse & finish

Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Neutralize if your process requires. Dry and prime/coating promptly to avoid flash rust (especially in humid environments).

Typical dilution (site-dependent)

Often used neat to diluted depending on oxide load and method. Common working ratios can range from 1:1 to 1:5 (product:water) for many shop applications.

For immersion tanks or long dwell, ask for an inhibitor-optimized option.

Typical dwell time

Light rust: minutes. Heavy rust: longer dwell and/or mechanical assist (brush/agitation). Avoid unnecessary overexposure.

Target “just enough” to remove oxide without excessive base-metal etch.

Temperature

Effective at ambient conditions; mild heating can accelerate performance where safe and permitted by your procedure.

Confirm material compatibility and ventilation when elevating temperature.

Important
This product is acidic. Do not mix with bleach/oxidizers. Do not apply on energized equipment. Protect adjacent materials and ensure controlled runoff.

Typical specifications & formats

Values depend on grade and customer requirements. Confirm details on quotation and supplied COA/TDS.

Quality & documentation

Chemistry

Phosphoric-acid blend with inhibitor system and wetting components (grade-dependent).

Appearance

Clear to slightly tinted liquid (varies by inhibitor package and grade).

pH (as supplied)

Acidic (typically < 2). Confirm on TDS/COA for the quoted grade.

Foam profile

Low-foam to moderate-foam options available depending on application method (spray vs immersion vs manual).

Compatibility focus

Designed for ferrous metals; special guidance required for galvanized steel, aluminum, zinc alloys, and mixed-metal assemblies.

Packaging

Drums, IBC, or bulk supply (as applicable). Labeling and palletization per lane and destination.

Specifications may vary depending on batch, origin, inhibitor package, and packaging selection. If you require a tight spec window, request a pre-approval COA.

Compatibility & limitations

Acidic derusting chemistry must be matched to the substrate and the process environment. Share your materials list and we’ll advise a safe approach.

Works well on

Carbon steel and mild steel oxide layers, flash rust, and storage rust when applied with correct dwell and rinse.

Use caution with

Galvanized steel, zinc-containing coatings, aluminum, and sensitive alloys. Ask for compatibility guidance and test panels.

Not a substitute for

Heavy scale removal where mechanical prep (blasting/grinding) is required, or where full pickling is specified by a standard.

Best practice
Run a small-area trial first. Evaluate oxide removal, surface profile, flash rust behavior, and downstream coating adhesion under your real conditions.

FAQ

Quick answers for procurement and technical alignment.

Does it remove grease and oil?

It’s optimized for oxide removal. For heavy oils/grease, pre-clean with an alkaline degreaser for best performance and consistency.

Will it prevent flash rust?

Proper rinsing, drying, and quick priming are key. If you need extended protection time, ask about workflow options and post-treatment steps.

Can we use it in an immersion tank?

Yes, depending on your materials of construction and rust load. Ask us for an inhibitor-optimized grade and operating guidance.

What packaging is available?

Drums, IBC, and bulk are available as applicable by lane. Share your monthly consumption and receiving constraints.

Can you provide SDS/COA?

Yes. SDS, COA, and TDS can be provided on request; export documentation can be aligned to your destination requirements.
